Flint Michigan water crisis is an ongoing drinking water contamination crisis. Join us in our efforts to get water to the community of Flint, Michigan
Srewolf & Nitram Foundation HEARTS has taken action to provide water to the devastated community of Flint, Michigan. Following the switch in water source from treated Lake Huron water (via Detroit) to the Flint River, the drinking water faced a series of issues that ultimately led to lead contamination, posing a significant public health risk. The corrosive nature of the Flint River water caused lead to seep into the water supply through aging pipes, resulting in alarmingly high levels of lead. This led to severe health problems for an estimated 6,000 to 12,000 residents, with elevated levels of lead in their bloodstreams.
Furthermore, the change in water source is suspected to be a contributing factor to an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in the county, which tragically claimed the lives of 10 individuals and affected another 77. In 2016, we collaborated with Hinckley, Jewels, Walmart, Home Depot, Walgreen, as well as our supporters on Facebook and Twitter. The water drop-off took place at Hyde Park Career Academy High School in Chicago, Illinois. On January 30, 2016, the first semi-truck carrying water arrived in Flint, Michigan to alleviate the water crisis.
